Monopoly: Token Madness Edition is a unique collector's variant centered on one of the brand's most memorable promotional campaigns: the global popular vote "Monopoly Token Madness" to choose new tokens for the game. Announced in 2017, this piece doesn't alter the classic Spanish-language board; instead, its differentiating value lies in an expanded set of metal figures linked to that vote.
Packaging format: Special edition with a side display box for the figures (catalog variant).
Distribution: Hasbro (Spain for this edition)
Condition: Opened, never used. An intact collector's piece, keeping its factory-sealed components and the original manual. It is 100% complete.
Peculiarities of this edition: It stands out mainly for not altering the original game experience in any way: from the traditional Spanish-language board (which ends at Paseo del Prado, and I haven't included a photo of it since it's a nationally well-known layout) to the exact design of the property cards, houses, and hotels — everything remains strictly identical to editions from its era. Its real differentiating value lies in the extra content of its box: a display of 16 metal figures instead of the usual 8.
Through a double transparent blister integrated on the side, the classic silver-colored components are shown alongside an exclusive selection of gold-colored figures that were part of the voting campaign. This edition uniquely includes the candidate tokens that were submitted for the vote, highlighting historic pieces that ultimately didn't make it into the final standard lineup, such as the thimble, the boot, and the wheelbarrow, alongside the ones that did win (the penguin, the T-Rex, and the rubber duck).
This global popular-vote campaign marked a milestone in the franchise's history, as it let the community decide the future of the official tokens, retiring nostalgic figures and phasing in other classic ones on the boards manufactured from then on.
