Monopoly: Speed Die Edition is a dynamic standard U.S. variant of the international format. Released to the market in 2007, this piece stands out for including the famous "Speed Die" —originally introduced in the 2006 MEGA edition— along with an official ruleset designed for faster games, drastically speeding up the pace of the traditional game.
Packaging format: Standard U.S. rectangular edition (International format with speed rules).
Distribution: Parker Brothers.
Condition: Opened, never used. Complete piece with the original outer box and the special "Play Faster with the NEW Speed Die" logo. It is complete.
Peculiarity of this edition: This North American version from the mid-2000s stands out historically for the official introduction of the "Speed Die" within its main standard box line, presented on the packaging itself as the great exclusive new feature to speed up games. It is a component designed to accelerate the traditional pace of the game, reducing game length and offering a rules variant highly valued by international collectors.
The function of this speed die is that it has extra faces such as the Bus (which allows you to choose the value of one of the dice or the sum of both to avoid high rents) and the iconic Mr. Monopoly (which forces you to move directly to the next available property to buy it, or to the nearest opponent-owned property if none are available).
To make this new mechanic playable, the game requires distributing an additional $1,000M to each player at the start of the game (normally two extra $500M bills), since the speed increases significantly when it comes to buying properties.
Historical origin of the die: This mechanic was originally introduced in Winning Moves' Monopoly: The Mega Edition (2006), where the speed die was originally blue. Due to its great success in reducing games to under an hour, Hasbro adopted it in 2007 for its global standard editions, changing its official color to the definitive red used today. As a catalog detail, this 2007 North American edition retained the original blue color before it was permanently changed to red worldwide.
