Monopoly: Musée du Louvre is an elegant, bilingual, internationally themed variant focused on museum collecting. Although this sought-after piece was originally released in 2017 (with a later reissue in 2023), its concept breaks from the classic board to turn players into patrons who compete to acquire the most famous works of art and archaeology in universal history, housed in the Louvre Museum, which can only be obtained (firsthand) through its official page.
Packaging format: Standard rectangular box (official Musée du Louvre design).
Distribution: Winning Moves / Hasbro (France).
Condition: Sealed.
Peculiarity of this edition: This is one of Hasbro's most elegant and sought-after bilingual museum editions. Instead of buying streets and traditional real estate, players become patrons who purchase the most famous works of art and archaeology in universal history housed at the Louvre Museum, which can only be obtained (firsthand) through its official page.
Since this is an internationally focused product, all playable elements (board, cards, and rulebook) include text translated and duplicated in both French and English. There's a lot worth highlighting here:
Near-total customization: This edition stands out for a deep thematic immersion in almost all its visual elements, from the chronological board to the themed banknotes. The only point where this personalization wasn't applied is the back of the Chance and Community Chest cards, which keep the brand's generic, traditional graphic design.
Tokens: Instead of the standard tokens, it includes 6 exclusive sculpted metal figures paying tribute to great masterpieces of art and archaeology history: the Venus de Milo, the Egyptian Cat (Bastet), the Seated Scribe, the Winged Bull (Lamassu), the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and an Idol from Amorgos.
Properties and Buildings: The spaces follow an artistic chronology (the Code of Hammurabi is the first brown property, and the Mona Lisa leads the dark blue group). Additionally, the houses and hotels are replaced by white and black plastic Pyramids, replicating the museum's iconic entrance designed by I. M. Pei.
Since this is an edition preserved in its native state, Factory Sealed (sealed from the factory) under its original cellophane, I use archival images obtained from advertisements to detail its interior.
